Exiter is a Seattle-based trio exploring the liminal space between alternative rock, electronic, and slowcore—music that begins in one place and ends somewhere entirely unexpected.

Formed in 2024 by former members of the dream-pop band Shimmertraps, Exiter brings a more distilled, restless energy: dynamic guitar-driven arrangements that dissolve into glitched-out ambience or drift into slow-burning introspection.

Before evolving into Exiter, the group made waves under their former name—amassing over 125,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, collecting millions of streams, selling out 700 of their debut vinyl pressing of LOOK!, and supporting shows for popular artists like Vansire and Thundercat. Their performance at Treefort Music Festival in Boise marked a turning point, both a farewell and a foundation for what would come next.

Exiter’s sound has been described as a cassette mixtape left out in the sun—familiar songs slowly melting and stitching into one another in a guitar-laced haze. There’s movement in every track, but never in a straight line.

The band has just finished working on their debut release under their new name, bringing their shape-shifting style to a new chapter.

Temporary Empty

Mixed by Dylan Seawright (Great Grandpa, Apples With Moya) and mastered by Dylan Wall (Feeble Little Horse, Hotline TNT, Versing), Temporary Empty showcases Exiter’s ability to shapeshift across genres without losing their identity. The record moves fluidly from the grunge-fueled intensity of the title track Temporary Empty, to the blistering, hardcore-tinged How/Copy, and finally to Dolphins Make A Heart—a dreamy, acoustic guitar-driven piece laced with fantasy synths and downtempo textures.

The album cover was done by Korean visual artist Jun Woo Park. “To us the image reflects how we often avoid confronting our fears—uncertainty, guilt, consequences—allowing them to grow larger the longer we run.” It’s not just about fear of the outcome, but the discomfort of facing what we’ve buried. It perfectly encapsulates the general theme throughout the record and symbolizes the reward of a new start.
